As a team manager for the basketball team I was placed in the role of leading my other team manager in running practice. I was often leading by staying on task with the objectives of my role on the team. I would make sure that we coordinated with coach about when practices were and making sure jerseys we had all the jerseys. Being the lead man for the job you are often showing others what the job entails by not saying a word. I would be mopping the floor and hunter would be doing the water. Leading by example through actions helped me be the best team manager.

Being a daycare worker, I am constantly in a leadership role. I usually am working with 3 year olds who commonly argue and don’t want to listen. Because of this I had to communicate with the other teacher in the room about solutions to help these children. I made a solution to separate the trouble kids from each other and show them the correct and safe way to act at daycare. By giving the children who are usually trouble makers positive attention it shows them how to get attention in a safe way and help you build a relationship with them.

After reading what you are doing for your internship it seems like a difficult job especially controlling the 3 year olds and making sure they don't fighting. I probably wouldn't be able to handle that type of job. Keep up the hard working and keep using your leadership skills to get out of situations of having kids fighting. Use the leadership skills to be creative and make new games for the kids to play so they stay occupied and won't fight.

I know difficult and rewarding it can be to work with kids. They are looking up to the people they see a lot. You’re always being watched by the kids and they will try to be like you as much as they can. Mainly because you’re a role model to them. Not only are you setting a good example by just being you around them, but in this case you showed them how you can problem solve and communicate effectively with those around you.

Wow! That’s awesome. Even as something as small as helping young kids know how to treat each other, it goes a long way. Because not only are you leading young ones to know how to treat others, but you’re building your communication skills. Which can easily be used in your everyday life, whether with friends, your future job, school, or if you happen to have kids of your own some day and already know how to handle conflicting situations when they arise

When I was in middle I thought a fun job would be to work in a daycare when I got older. After reading what you wrote and talking with other people I now see that it is an extremely important and sometimes stressful job. During work you have a huge responsibility of watching children and in order to do that you must be alert and communicative at all times. It is amazing that you have come up with solutions to helping problems that occur and make it easier to do your job.

Day care can be difficult because kids are unpredictable and excited that you are interested in working with kids. Because society needs more people who are willing to take time out of their life to help our next generation grow.

Hey Jacob, I can really envision how you set your self apart as a leader in this situation. With you being in this position for over two years now you have probably gained enough experience to do all tasks on your own. However, you being a leader and showing hunter how to do things really shows the type of leader you are. I like how you want others to learn and better themselves through what you can teach them. I think these skills you have now will translate into you becoming a teacher later in life. Keep working on those skills, I'm excited to see what the future holds for you Jacob!

For this semester I have been working at Anytime fitness helping the owner out with the business. When I'm working the owner usually then isn't there to keep all the equipment cleaned and everything organized. Working down there a lot of my leadership come into place is when someone new comes in and I give them a tour. I give a tour of the fitness place and make sure I tell them how great it is so I can get them to be a member. By using my leadership skills I'm confident in myself to be able to give a tour like a sales person and be able to get people to join up all the time. I have increased the members for him a lot down at the fitness place.

Hey will I really enjoyed reading about your experience at any time fitness and becoming a sales person to help recruit people to this specific gym. I think this position you have right now could really benefit you in the future. With you holding a position to be a representative of this gym you are constantly gaining knowledge and experience for potential business fields later in life. I also like how you are almost becoming a salesperson with this job. I think working with people like you do in this position can not only solidify your people and social skills but more specifically your skills as a sales man.

At my job I am sometimes put in charge of closing the kitchen and dinning room. This means that I have to make sure everything is set up and ready for the morning shift people so they don’t have to start from scratch. I have to set the dining room, sweep and mop the back to get everything clean, take out the trash from all the stations, make sure the coffee and tea makers are cleaned out and set up for the morning, roll silverware, and to make sure the condiment bottles are refilled and cleaned properly. This can sometimes be very stressful on days that are busy and trying to get everything done to be able to leave at a reasonable time. Some of the other employees don’t always want to do their side jobs so it’s my responsibility to make sure everything is done. At times they won’t be allowed to get their tips at the end of the night until I have signed off on their report to make sure they did everything they were supposed to. This is a leadership roll because I am being trusted in getting everything set up for the next day and for the manager not having to worry about doing everything in the morning.

It must be very stressful trying to balance your relationship with your other coworkers and your responsibility in that leadership role. I assume it also help you empathize with management a bit more.

Making them finish their tasks for their tips is a really good idea. I also have to open and close the dinning room at hyvee which is way easier than closing an entire restaurant but I can relate to the stress that comes with this responsibility. You handled your tasks very responsibly.

The store I work at has been short staffed, so they have started to hire more people. Since I’ve been working there for about 6 months, they naturally put me in charge of training the hires. I had to walk the new employees through what they have to do when they are assigned to a department. Since I was in charge of training them, I had to make sure they knew how to properly complete all of their tasks. This leadership role made me responsible for the mistakes they made if I didn’t teach them correctly. It also made me understand a bit better why managers do things the way they do.

That’s really cool that your job puts you in charge of training new employees. I can understand how stressful it can be sometimes to make sure that the new employees understand all of their tasks, since if they do something wrong it’s put on you. But this will be a skill you can carry through the rest of your life, since it helps you not just lead others to be successful but helps you to be more organized and manage things when they unexpectedly put on you

It is so amazing that you are already given the opportunity in your job to assist others. While this is an amazing chance for you to prove yourself to your manager and coworkers, I understand how stressful it can be. It is up to you to teach them everything they need to know about their work and if they mess up it falls on you. That is a huge risk you are taking and I think it's great you are doing it.

Being in a small role in a company and being in charge of people gives you experience in real life situations. You might not feel it is helpful but you doing the extra mile to help others understand the business is good for you in future jobs when your be in charge of others and you use these skills to improve on it.

The last internship I had gotten that was supposed to be for the entire year ended earlier than expected for the rest of the year for reasons that I dont really know how to explain. But I did get a new internship with being on set crew for the school productions at Burke on Saturdays from 8 am to 1 pm. This is a really fun internship for me because it had caused me to find a new hobby with building things and painting sets that I didn't really have with the other internship even though it was still really fun to hang out with the Rockstars every Wednsday after school. There were two times that I was put into a leadership position with the set crew internship. There was this one girl named Alarhia who had just transferred from another school who didn't know where everything was so I helped her out with setting everything up with the tools and showing her how to use them along with how to use the drill. She already knew of some of this stuff but I just tried to show her some of the things that she might have gotten confused about. Another time I put myself in a leadership position is when I volunteer to clean off all of the brushes during the cleanup of everything used. I actually find cleaning off the brushes really fun except when its primer paint because with the other paints you can clearly see when it's all out because of clear water being seen, but with primer paint it is a little mor e difficult since the paint is already white and seems like it never comes completely off even when I'm at it for maybe 15 minutes.

At my job, I monitor the lead notebooks (notebooks with required information that are needed to remain on a lead job site until the job is finished) and update them as new documents come in and jobs end and begin. There was a time, some months ago, that i was put into the leadership role of not just monitoring and updating the lead notebooks but to create hybrid lead notebooks. This was because the lead notebooks use to take up 2 notebooks per job. My boss had originally made a hybrid notebook, (just one notebook containing the same content as the 2 notebooks would but more revised and refined) and let me test it out to see if i preferred the hybrid or the original 2 notebooks. I ended up choosing the hybrid as the easiest and more constructive form to maintain for the required lead information, of which i was then voluntary put in the leadership role of converting all of our notebooks to hybrids. This took me about a month to do, of which i spent more hours at the office to make sure this project was getting done while maintaining my normal responsibilities every time i come in the office. Around this time i did receive a raise since i was taking in the leadership role of monitoring the lead notebooks and then converting them to hybrids.

At my job last summer I was forced into a leadership role. It was a slow easy morning at the pool and my manager was taking my brother to a different pool to sub for the day. The other two managers were also gone for this short fifteen minute period. During this period of time, a patron at the pool was in the water and started to go into diabetic shock (I did not know this was a thing). I was in the lifeguard office at the time, when I heard the triple whistle (this meaning someone is activating the emergency action plan) I immediately looked out and saw what was going on and then called 911 and helped clear out the pool. But when going to open up the gates to let the EMT's when they arrived, I saw that it was locked and my manager was the only one with the key. I tried my best to stay calm and so I took charge of the situation and found a way to break the lock and guide them to the women who was having diabetic shock while also keeping people out of the water and assisting in first aid. This day was very significant to me as I learned that I can take charge and keep calm and act well in stressful situations.

This sounds like a really intense experience and from the way you described it, it sounds like you handled it really well. I couldn't imagine the stress of being in a situation like that. Having to keep track of so many different things at once was probably difficult but it was really cool how you found a way to get the EMT's in while managing everything else. It takes a special kind of person to be able to function under that amount of stress, Good Job!

I would have freaked out if I was in that situation. The way you handled it is very impressive and inspirational. Keeping calm during a hectic situation is very hard to do. But the fact that you still successfully took care of such a big issue shows just how good of a leader you are,

Working for an apartment complex for my internship I learn a lot about being self sufficient and how to work with others. For my job here I am a maintenance work along with 2 others who are much older than me. Sometimes they will not be in to work and in that case I am then expected to take over get the days work done. One day both of my co workers were not in to work and all of the water heaters needed to be checked before the freeze later that week. This was my leadership role I was placed into. I have never done this task before but I have shadowed my co workers doing it. I had to take matters into my own hand and get this done in the time I was assigned. At first I was nervous I would mess things up but after the first check I was confident I would get these done. Eventually I did complete this task and I felt a sign of accomplishment for completing something not usually asked of me. This experience furthered my understanding of what it is like to take a leadership role and complete it. It established confidence in me in later roles in the future.

During my internship at Gallup, I was in a group with five other students working to complete a project. Throughout the course of the internship some of the other group members started to fall off, didn't show up or couldn't contribute the necessary time for the project. By the time our presentation rolled around it was just me and one of the other students standing in front of a room full of our peers and Gallup's hiring managers. Through that process I chose to step up and be the leader when there was the absence of one. My team of two still had a lot to get done to be ready for the project in time. At the time my experience in technology was still rather limited so I forced myself to dive in and learn other aspects of the technology so we could create a quality project. With the help of my other team mate we were able to create an astounding presentation. This experience taught me that good things can still come from adversity, and it's how you step up to the challenge that makes all the difference.

This same I got a job in the Library at burke. My job is to keep it looking nice and clean and organized. One time that I was put into a leadership role is when Kailey asked if I could hold a book for her so she could read it for a class. I tried finding it and luckily Mrs. McCune had been reading it earlier that week so it was up with her. Mrs. McCune said shed hang onto it until she comes and get the book. She came after school to get the book. This job is simple but you always have something to do everyday.

One time that I was put into a leadership role during my internship was, when we had a children’s event at Hy-Vee. The event consisted of free arts and crafts, free paw patrol pictures and a free kids breakfast with the purchase of an adult meal. I was in charge of taking the breakfast orders and cleaning the dinning room. I had one other employee helping me but we were swamped. So I had to take matters into my own hands because we ran out of tables and table numbers. I went into the back and found some foldable tables and chairs. And as for the table numbers I cut off sheets of paper and began using the alphabet to distinguish each order.

One time I had stepped up to the leadership role at my job is when I had to basically do 3 jobs at once. I had to be a cart pusher, electronics salesman and train others. I was the main cart pusher so everytime it got low inside I rushed out to get more. Then when people needed stuff unlock in electronic I would go get it for them and check them out. I was the only non new member working that day in both sections so I had to help others get the hang of it.
